Project week 10

Project week 9

Project week 8

Project week 7

I spent this week refining the post process I use within lightroom and photoshop, I have made textures and used textures I have found online from LSP and JD textures.   The textures on their own are not what I wanted but after playing around and mixing as well as adjusting opacity gave me a look I was happy with that would enable me to be consistant.

I have began looking at Easter break and what models I can use to plan more sessions, but this time with natural light.

Project week 6

I have began to edit images from the model sessions and looking deeper into how I actually want the end result to look. I have decided I want a more textured look to be in keeping with aged appearance and a painterly edit, as well as to keep all images the same style so as to show consistency in style and editing. I have also started a micro body of work with crying children.

Project week 5

Week five has not seem much work project wise due to children off with chicken pox. I have began to think a little more about where I want to be with my final project and feel that I would love an exhibition to display that and so I am going to look into how I do that.

Project week 4

Week four has seen some further progress in that I have been doing several shoots with children in period costume and a few tears prior to equipment being stolen I found the week fascinating and met the worlds most pushy parent which ended in me saying I had all I need as the parent obviously wanted it more than the child.

I had some amazing costumes and look forward to editing those images.

I have been growing my pinterest board even more to get ideas on costume. But am conscious that the time it is taking to look into costumes is taking me away from the idea of my project which was to study the Dutch Masters Lighting, but mostly looking at the three point perspective within Rembrandt lighting "image1"

I have been looking into the Dutch masters and looking at the points of interest in the paintings and how they created them. For example, using a bright colour or lighter shades as a point of interest. How the images are composed.

Project Development week two

Week three saw some progress in what I had actually been able to think about with regards to my project, as well as a little confusion with regards to what I was actually supposed to be doing.

We had a webinar with tutor Gary who made me feel a little better but also threw a spanner in the works for me.

I had been researching The Dutch Masters to see where I want to go with this project and decided that I would focus on the era as well as the lighting. I want to find out about colours, costume, lighting and the places that these portraits where done in. I searched google with just general points of interest like Rembrandt.

I have put a request post on facebook for models (image2) to help with this project. Informing everyone interested in what type of costumes I required and showed them the Pinterest board to assist (image 1) The interest in the project has been amazing, with people having costumes hand made to people borrowing from Museums.

I went ahead and created a risk assessment with having the number of children in the studio I was going to to.

I had fixed on doing a photography remake of the Dutch Masters, but Gary then suggested " had I thought about leaving the raw image as it was with lights and stands on show. (Image 3)I am currently struggling with this idea as it puts me out of my comfort zone and bares all. The images I have in my mind arefinished and fully edited.

Week two has been very full on, opening eyes to the possibilities this course has to offer and the diverse range of students. It has left me with very little time to work on project but what I have done is;

  •  Make a request on some model facebook pages I am a member of. Asking for models "Looking for three Girls age 5-14 three boys 5-14, also looking for twin girls and twin boys." The response has been great however has been made more challenging as I am asking for parent collaboration with regards to costume.

  • I have began a pinterest board to help myself and also parents with ideas for costume. This is being adding to all the time. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/beebeau0666/baroque-17th-century-photography-ma/

  • I have began to select models and have started booking sessions. First session are in week three as it is half term.

  • I have contacted the local colleges to see if any hair and make students would like to be involved as part of their course.

Project Development week one

I came onto the MA Photography course knowing exactly what I wanted to study.

The dutch masters painters and how it influences my passionA list is found on the link below. I look forward to this study as feel I will get much more done when I have settled into my way around being at University and the course.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dutch_painters

These are mostly baroque painters of the 17th century of Flemish heritage with the top well known painters being:

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669)

Perhaps the greatest and most famous or well known portrait painter of all time, Rembrandt van Rijn, he was a master of observation, chiaroscuro and, perhaps most importantly, brutal honesty, as seen in his most famous works, the self-portraits. no one knows how many he actually painted, but whatever the actual number, it is a staggering collection including approximately 45 paintings and many drawings. These depict the ravages of time on the artist’s face without any sense of vanity, and are filled with emotion. His Biblical scenes and etchings are also incredible

I have contacted local colleges for hair and make up students to see if they would like to a part of my project. But due to half term I am awaiting a reply.

I am also booked onto  a course in Venice with Alexandra hall, to assist with vintage lighting techniques.

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675

Virtually ignored in his own time, Vermeer is now truly considered an Old Master. Like many from the Golden Age of Dutch Paintings, Vermeer’s fascination was light, and that is why I am very interested in studying him. His work is best known for  ‘Girl With a Pearl Earring (c. 1655), in which the interplay of light upon the fabrics and the telling reflection shining on the pearl earring, the name of the masterpiece, make it one of the masterpieces of western art. Using the camera obscura that became available in the Netherlands in the mid-17th century,

Vermeer’s best works generally feature windows, and Vermeer would use his new tool to depict the light shining through them in ways never before seen.
